Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy massage detoxifies and regulates normal bodily functions. It is calming, quick acting and an extremely effective treatment, using blended essential oils.

What is it?

Aromatherapy is an umbrella term for a variety of massage techniques encompassing the use of essential oils blended in a vegetable and/or herbal carrier (base oil).

Massage is the manipulation of soft tissue. It relieves pain, releases tension, improves circulation, assists lymph flow, stimulates elimination, nourishes tissues, boosts the immune system and induces relaxation.

Aromatherapy massage detoxifies and regulates normal bodily functions. It is calming, quick acting and an extremely effective treatment.

How effective is the massage ?

The deep and effective techniques used by Edith Maskell are a combination of remedial, neuro-muscular, muscle energy, acupressure, deep tissue, stretching, kneading, lymph drainage, pulsing, cranio-sacral and reflexology.

Although aroma plays an important role, Aromatherapy at Bromley Health Management is not just about smell and neither is it a buff and shine massage - it is a clinical treatment and may help to alleviate a variety of symptoms.

Why use Essential Oils ?

Essential oils are liquids extracted from all parts of aromatic plants, for example the zest from an orange is an essential oil.

The natural chemicals contained in pure essential oils have healing abilities which improve physical and emotional well being. Most are antiseptic, some anti-fungal, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, detoxifiers, diuretics, sedative, muscle relaxants and mood enhancers. Others are immune system boosters to protect and fight infection.

How do Essential Oils help ?

Essential oils have a profound and direct effect on all major organs and structures of the body. Through massage they enter the blood stream via the skin. Herbal oils such as Arnica, St John's Wort, Calendula, Carrot, Borage and Aloe Vera can be particularly beneficial in their own right. Blended with essential oils however, the effect is enhanced when used between treatments, under guidance.

Therapeutic benefits are also achieved when used as inhalants, by adding to baths, saunas, burners, wood fires or to create your own perfumes, hand, foot and face creams, bath oils, gels, hair applications and body lotions.

A qualified Aromatherapist will make an assessment prior to treatment and synergistically blend essential oils appropriate to the needs of individual patients. Edith Maskell selects from over 50 different pure essential, carrier and herbal (macerated)oils.

Where appropriate, the patient will be given a blend of oils (with full instructions for use) between visits to enhance the effects of the clinical treatments.
