Chiropractic Chiropractors base their work around the belief that most common problems can be linked back to a misalignment of the spine. Chiropractors aim to 'free up' the spine, allowing easier movement. Chiropractic is an alternative manual therapy used to treat many things from back and neck pain, migraine, sciatica, numbness, pins and needles, asthma and bedwetting to colicky babies. A manual therapy is usually more effective for neurological, muscular or skeletal conditions. Chiropractors aim to correct the course of the problem, not just the symptoms. Chiropractic utilises adjustments (specific form of manipulation) and soft tissue techniques to normalisejoint movement and function and remove any impingement to, or irritation of the nerves. Nerves exit the spine between the vertebrae and carry vital information to your joints, muscle, skin and internal organs. If the spinal joints are not moving properly or the vertebrae are out of alignment, spinal nerves can become irritated, inflamed and stretched. The body is a flexible adaptable structure, and pain is often the LAST symptom to surface. Chiropractors can detect a deficiency in spinal movement BEFORE symptoms appear. Once the symptoms have gone, it may take some time for the supporting structures in the neuromucularskeletal system to return to its' correct position. This is why it is important to finish the course of treatment to enable the supporting structure to "relearn" the correct way to function. Spinal problems in children can have far reching effects. Bedwetting can be created by nerve interference due to spinal alignments which may cause communication between the brain and blader to break down. More than two thirds of all children will have one or more episodes of ear infections by the age of three. A 1996 study of a group of children with ear infections and discomfort found that 93% of the study group reported improvement with Chiropractic care. A 1989 study of colicky infants in Denmark reports a success rate of 94% among the study group following a program of Chiropractic care. Favourable results also come from studies of children who suffer from asthma. If you wear out your car you can get a new one. You can replace your teeth if need be. But if you wear out your body - Where are you going to live? Friday, 25 August 2006 |
