The Importance of Diet in Fertility Edith Maskell looks at the complex relationship between Diet and fertility - where modern living can lead to a disruption in the normal functioning of the body. Infertility is a complex subject. It is not only due to diagnosed medical problem such as endometriosis, blocked fallopian tubes, sexually transmitted diseases like Chladymia and Human Papilloma virus, endometriosis, low sperm count, lack of egg production and/or egg quality or others. Low thyroid and/or adrenal function is often undiagnosed by the medical profession. Inadequate diet, over use of alcohol, smoking, emotional issues, prescribed or leisure drug intake. Exposure to chemicals, metals, pesticides, parasites, bacteria, viruses and environmental toxins are often ignored. It is the view of the author that all of these may be vital contributory factors. The contraceptive pill, processed convenience foods, cosmetics and toiletries, radiation from mobile phones, estrogens in plastic containers, hormones in the food chain, stress from pressurised life styles, cause a disruption in the normal functioning of the body. There is also evidence that medical conditions like ME, IBS, Candida, Arthritis, Eczema, Asthma, depression and weight gain are also linked to infertility. At Bromley Health Management, we can carry out a comprehensive assessment using evolutionary computer technology, known as the BEST system (Bio Energetic Stress Testing) which may be a useful tool in assessing the effect of some of the above, on the body. The assessment includes a wide range of tests such as organ function, levels of toxicity, liver function and gut permeability, vitamin and mineral deficiencies, hormone imbalance, digestive function and food and environmental intolerances. A detailed report highlights where there are imbalances and enables a complete treatment plan to be drawn up which may help to restore health and vitality and thus provide the right environment in which babies may be conceived and thrive. Prize roses should not planted in stony ground. Once the assessment has been, made a treatment programme is individually tailored for the client and/or the couple (it takes two to tango). It may also include advice on the use of specialised nutritional supplements, herbal or homoeopathic medicines, dietary changes and other complementary and alternative therapies. By following the programme and ensuring the intake of wholesome foods and a balance of vitamins and minerals, this approach can have powerful therapeutic effects. It is recommended that all clients considering complementary and alternative help for infertility should have previously sought medical advice and in some cases, the consent of their medical practitioner prior to embarking on a treatment programme.
