Healthy Living

Definition of Health and Well Being

The body is either at ease with itself or in a position of dis-ease

When the body is easily able to adapt, react to or compensate for the things we're exposed to every day of our lives - we're HEALTHY.

The definition of ILL health is NOT when infection or injury is present.

Ill health is when the body is weakened by exposure to substances and becomes vulnerable and unable to function as a result.  Ill health is when it can no longer adapt, react to or compensate for the things we're exposed to every day of our lives.

As people progress through life their immune system moves away from compensating every time it’s challenged, in the same way that we move from children to adulthood.  Because of the heavy toxic bombardment that we're exposed to every day as we age,  the body finds it harder to cope and as a result becomes slower to react - to compensate, if at all.

Very often, I hear people say “I’m very healthy, I never get colds”.  Regarding this as an indication of good health – not so; it’s often an indication that the immune system is sluggish and congested; hence not responding - not reacting/compensating at all.  Sooner or later these bodies body collapse under the strain and the owners will then come to me and say, "I don't understand it. All these symptoms happened over night".  When asked, they can't attribute the sudden onset of symptoms to any event in their lives because they thought they have ALWAYS been so healthy.  Whatever the symptoms, we NEVER become ill overnight, be it a pain in the neck or a digestive problem or whatever.  We may have been having symptoms - niggling aches and pains or inconveniences - disturbed sleep - for years and just accepted that it's "normal" or that this is something they, as individuals, either have to live with or that it's in the genes?  After all how do we know what's normal if we've had the symptoms for as long as we can remember?

When the body can no longer compensate and we continue to ignore the symptoms it presents to us or we fail to recognise the signs; as we age and over a period of time, susceptibility to disease increases and degeneration of major organs follows, as sure as day follows night.  When our body is “ill at ease” (dis-eased), we fall ill - sadly sometimes fatally and by then too late to do anything about it.  If we had a crystal ball and could look into the future and see how our bodes were going to fall apart through neglect and we were told - it doesn't have to be like that - some simple changes to your lifestle can stop the rot setting in - would we do anything about it?  Would we make the changes?

Just like a tyre on a bicycle.  If we’re riding along and discover a puncture and we stop and change it, we can carry on our journey.  If, on the other hand, we ignore it and keep going, eventually that tyre would disintegrate and we would have a very bumpy as well.  Eventually we'd likely fall off the bike!!  By that stage not only the tyre but possibly the wheel would be rendered useless.  Because of the domino effect, if we have an accident as a result, it may not even be possible to save the bike let alone the danger we will have been exposed to through this blatant neglect !!

If we always do what we've always done, we'll always have what we've always got.  Somewhere along the line at some time and at some stage we HAVE to change - otherwise we WILL kill ourselves.

As a practitioner, encouraging people to CHANGE their MIND about their eating habits has been the most controversial and difficult part of my work.  They say "my life isn't worth living if I can't eat or drink blah de blah ........" as if their life is worth living with all the symptoms they have put up with over the years and usually because they have no knowledge of the extent of the damage they have unwittingly self inflicted.

Bearing in mind patients usually only seek my help as a last resort, there's a real inability to appreciate that their "illness" just may be a direct result of what they have put in their mouth, whether it's food or liquid related down the years!  They say "you are what you eat" but it isn't just about what you eat - it's what your body does with it that counts.  If it isn't able to absort that food properly and utilise the nutrients, it can not survive.  Our lives literally depend on nutrients.  So if our nutritional state is poor because our bodies are not able to properly process the foods we put in our mouths, we will be malnourished.  Even people who follow healthy diets and take bucket loads of vitamin, minerals and other supplements can be malnourished if they have digestive problems.

When symptoms develop to the stage where folk are forced to seek medical help, they are (unsurprisngly) full of fear, frustrated and anxious if the medical profession report that there is "nothing wrong" - all the test results come back negative.  They find it hard to believe.  How can there be nothing wrong when they feel so bad? They know they're not imagining it and it adds insult to injury if the doctor suggests they're depressed or over emotional.  These are the people who find themselves at my doorstep.  Hence, I'm the last resort.  They know they're not going mad, even though they often feel they are.  By this time, they're simply desperate to seek help and support - someone to take them seriously and help find an answer to  their mysterious and often embarrassing illnesses - SO many people all into this category.

The test results are usually negative because the medical profession are looking for known medical conditions (that's a good thing- we don't want them to find anything life threatening - do we?).

This is a crucial point.  There is no disease to be found - YET. So it is time perhaps for them to take a look into the hypothetical crystal ball - thank our lucky stars that the degeneration hasn't started and DO something to change their situation; to halt the damaging process.

Those bodies are expressing symptoms because it is trying to let them know that it can no longer function properly. It has lost the ability to react to, or compensate for the damage it's being exposed to every day through diet, lifestyle and our very toxic environment

Symptoms like heart burn, headaches, disturbed sleep, general aches and pains, depression, high blood pressure, digestive problems, skin conditions, feeling tired all the time are ALL warning signs that our body is no longer able to heal itself. Ignoring these symptoms and trying to suppress them with pain killers on a regular basis, in the hope they if you can' feel the pain, it no longer exists, going to the gym and trying to run it off all further hampers the body from healing itself.  In the end, it's so low in energy - the fire in our bellies goes out and we're on a very slippery slope.

At Bromley Health Management, we can help our clients define where they are on the cycle of "ease" and "dis-ease" through various complementary therapies, allergy testing and health screening.  If you or someone you know feels they might benefit from a health MOT, please call Edith Maskell on FREEphone 0800 093 1178 for a FREE initial consultation to discuss your particular health issues or if you want to become aware of how to avoid having health issues in the future.

Thought for the Day:

If we could read the secret history of our enemies, we would find in each man's life a sorrow and a suffering enough to disarm all hostility.
- Henry Longfellow

SO YOU WANT TO STOP SMOKING ONCE AND FOR ALL?

There is no single magic approach to stopping smoking.  It’s a learned behaviour (we’re not born smokers).  There is a major psychological element as well as chemical dependency.  No single formula, system or product will do the job. All they do is make the manufacturers richer.  That’s why so many attempts fail.

Whilst there is no quick, easy way to quit smoking - if you want to find out how you can stop once and for all - call Edith Maskell now on FREEPHONE 0800 093 1178 for a FREE initial consultation.
