When is an Allergy not an Allergy?

A recent study presented to the American College of Osteopathic family physicians suggests that many patients are taking prescription antihistamines for allergies unnecessarily.

According to Sheryl Szeinbach "Millions of people suffer unnecessarily because they really don't have allergies".

Researchers studied 246 patients taking antihistamines and found 65% tested negative for allergies. The same patients were also more likely to take anti-depressants and visit their Doctors more often.

Allergy-like symptoms are often caused by food and environmental sensitivities and other conditions, leading to mis-diagnosis and incorrect treatment.
