Cola Makers Caught Red-Handed

Soft drink manufacturers are under fire again over the presence of caffeine in their products.

Manufacturers have previously claimed that caffeine is only added to improve taste. However, one study at John Hopkins University in the United States found that only 8% of adults could taste any noticeable difference between a cola containing caffeine and one without.

Cola manufacturers have previously been accused of adding caffeine in order to make their products more addictive and parrallels can be drawn with the tobacco industry where cigarette companies once claimed that Nicotine was not addictive and only added as a flavour enhancer.
