Antibiotics Drive may have fuelled Throat Disease

An NHS drive to reduce the level of antibiotics prescribed by GPs may be linked with several cases of Lemmiere's Disease reported this year in South West England, according to a report last month in the New Scientist.

The disease is a bacterium, affecting young healthy adults and may go on to infect the lungs, liver and joints. Terry Riordan of the PHLS claims there may be a link between the rising numbers of cases reported and falling levels of antiobiotics prescriptions. Meanwhile, specialists have again issued warnings this winter of the emergence of Superbugs becoming increasingly resilient to standard antiobiotics and tradtional remedies.
