Doctors Fail Asthma Patients

A recent study at John Hopkins research laboratories suggests that doctors may be failing patients with asthma by not providing enough information about the condition and taking too soft an approach to treatment.

The study of 237 men and women aged over 70 found evidence that patients were overusing beta antagonists and theophylline, drugs which give short term relief to asthmatic problems and under using corticosteroid, an anti-inflammatory drug believed to help prevent asthma attacks and change the course of the condition.
