Life's Too Fast for Breakfast

Nearly 70% of us regularly miss at least one meal a day and breakfast is the most commonly skipped meal, according to research carried out by the supermarket chain Sainsbury. Most people claim they do not have time to stop and eat.

Colette Kelly, Nutrition Scientist at the British Nutrition Foundation believes missing Breakfast is a potential risk to health. "The body needs Glucose first thing in the morning after fasting through the night, particularly the brain which needs to concentrate".

Missing Breakfast may also encourage people to eat unhealthy snack foods throughout the day.

The digestive system is better able to process food during the morning while the metabolism is higher. Eating late at night means unprocessed food may be left to rot in the gut overnight, potentially leading to IBS, digestive problems, food intolerances and a range of other common disorders. Experts advise that regularly eating your evening meal after 8pm could be detrimental to health.

Young people are particularly at risk with 87% of 16-24 year olds regularly missing at least one meal a day.

In addition, the survey revealed only 13% of us take exercise at least 3 times a week.

Thought for the Day:

I sought my God and my God I could not find. I sought my soul and my soul eluded me. I sought my brother to serve him in his need, and I found all three
- my God, my soul, and thee.
