Folic Acid and B12 for Healthy Hearts Folic acid and Vitamin B12 could be more effective than previously thought in reducing the risk of heart disease. Researchers at the University of California, San Francisco found that both nutrients significantly reduced levels of homocysteine, an indicator of heart disease risk. The researchers believe that supplementing a healthy diet with an additional 1000mcg of folic acid and 500 mcg of B12 could cut death rates from heart disease in the U.S by 310,000 over the next 10 years.
