Excessive Drinking Leads to Excessive Eating People who drink more alcohol than average are more likely to eat more food and fat according to researchers at the INSERM centre, France. The study originally sought to investigate links between low heart disease rates in France and the national love of wine. In a study of over 70,000 French women, heavy drinkers were found to take in 32% more cholesterol than non-drinkers. Heavy drinkers were also four times more likely to be smokers. Researchers speculated that alcohol may have a role in stimulating the appetite, or that people with a compulsive nature are driven to eat, drink and smoke more. Monday, 10 September 2001 |
