Pre-eclempsia Risk to Working Women Women who work through their pregnancies may be at greater risk of developing pre-eclempsia, according to research reported in April. Researchers at University College, Cork studied the blood pressures of 933 working and non-working women in their twenties. Working women were found to be at four times greater risk of developing the condition. Researchers claimed the stress of working may alter stress hormone levels, leading to higher blood pressure among working women. Results were found be independant of other known risk factors such as smoking, drinking, weight, height and age. Friday, 24 May 2002 |
