Connection between ME and Unhappy Childhood

Edith Maskell of Bromley Health Management said "in my professional experience Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) (sometimes known as ME) is a debilitating condition and is one of those mystery illnesses which baffles doctors. No one seems to understand the cause or how to treat it".

Until now? The results of a new study are reported in the Archives of General Psychiatry, 2006; 63: 1258-66 where researchers suggest that the roots of CFS might be traced back to childhood. The Study compared 60 healthy adults against 43 CFS suffers.

Participants were graded by the severity of traumas experienced in childhood. Apparently, up to "… eight times more people are more likely to suffer from CFS if they experienced trauma – such as sexual, emotional / physical abuse, neglect or depression….".
