Herbalist "Rogue Trader" Fined The Irish Medicines Board has fined herbalist Donal Walsh £3000 for illegally selling eczema creams which contain steroids. Walsh operated by mail order and is said to have misled his customers who believed his "Cherrydex" cream to be "herbal, natural and safe". Unsupervised use of steroidal creams can have long-term effects. According to Hugo Bonar, IMB Enforcement Officer, one clients facial skin thinned to the point where his veins could be seen through the skin. Another two month old patient was said to be traumatised by withdrawal symptoms after her parents were alerted to the dangers of steroidal creams. "Cherrydex" cream sold for £30 a tub and was shown to contain corticosteroids, a prescription controlled medicine. Saturday, 30 June 2001 |
