World Relexology Week: 23rd - 30th September 2000 Reflexologists from all over the UK and 31 countries around the world will be taking part in World Reflexology Week, scheduled to start 23rd September. Reflexology week is an annual event organised by the ICR (International Council of Reflexologists). Supported by a publicity campaign and various promotional events, the Reflexology Forum aims to increase awareness of Reflexology to the public, medical profession and business, and show people how to get in touch with qualified, registered reflexologists. A dedicated 0800 telephone number is currently being manned for members of the public to get advice and details of qualified practitioners within their area. World Reflexology Week Factsheet: What is Reflexology? Reflexology is a complementary therapy which works on the hands and feet enabling the body to heal itself. Following ilness, stress, injury or disease, the body is in state of 'imbalance' and vital energy pathways are blocked, preventing the body from functioning effectively. Reflexology can be used to restore and maintain the body's natural equilibrium and encourage healing. A Reflexologist uses hands only to apply pressure to the feet. For each person, the application and effects of the therapy are unique. Sensitive, trained hands can detect tiny deposits and imbalances in the feet and by working on these points the Reflexologist can release blockages and restore free flow of energy to the body. Tensions are eased, and circulation and elimination is improved. This gentle therapy encourages the body to heal itself, often counteracting a lifetime of misuse. Who can benefit from Reflexology?
