Magnetic Fields and Physiotherapy

Researchers at the University of Connecticut are examining claims that electromagnetic field therapy can be used to strengthen bone and possibly reverse the effects of osteoporosis.

The study will involve 70 postmenopausal women (one of the groups believed to be most at risk from osteoporosis). The women will be asked to sleep on a special aluminium mat believed to create a subtle electromagnetic field which stimulates calcium and bone cells. The results will then be compared with a control group.
